About Us

Cross Timbers Bison started in 2018 with just five bison and a desire to do something meaningful with the land and animals we had been entrusted with. What began as a small family ranch has grown into something we are incredibly passionate about — raising bison, restoring native grasslands, producing quality food, and sharing this incredible animal with people across the country.

For us, raising bison has never simply been about growing a herd.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help preserve the American bison while managing our land in a way that works with nature rather than against it. We believe bison belong on the grasslands, and we have seen firsthand the impact they can have when livestock, native plants, wildlife, and thoughtful land management are allowed to work together.

We continually work to improve the properties we manage through practices such as rotational grazing, prescribed fire, native grass restoration, and regenerative land management. Our goal isn't perfection — it's leaving the land healthier, more diverse, and more productive than we found it.

Why We Raise Bison

There is something different about bison.

They are resilient, powerful, incredibly intelligent animals with a history deeply connected to the American landscape. Raising them has given our family an even greater appreciation for the land, wildlife, weather, seasons, and the responsibility that comes with caring for livestock.

We love being able to watch calves hit the ground each spring, see a pasture respond after a burn, move a herd onto fresh grass, and watch wildlife return as the land improves. Those moments are a big part of why we continue doing what we do.

And just as importantly, we want other people to experience and appreciate bison too.

From Our Ranch to Your Family

Part of preserving bison is creating a sustainable reason to continue raising them. Through our ranch-direct bison meat and products, we are able to connect families with high-quality American bison while supporting the continued growth and preservation of the species.

We take pride in knowing where our food comes from and in giving our customers the opportunity to know the ranch and people behind theirs.

Sharing the Journey

Education has become an important part of Cross Timbers Bison. Through our YouTube channel, social media, ranch experiences, and conversations with other producers and bison enthusiasts, we share both the rewarding and difficult parts of raising bison.

We don't want to show only the polished moments. Ranching includes successes, failures, hard decisions, unpredictable animals, changing weather, broken equipment, new calves, beautiful sunsets, and plenty of lessons learned along the way.

By sharing those experiences, we hope to help more people understand bison, agriculture, land stewardship, and where their food comes from.

Looking Ahead

What started with five bison has become a much bigger mission.

We want to continue growing our herd responsibly, restoring more native grassland, improving the properties under our care, producing food we're proud to put on our own table, and helping ensure that bison continue to have a place on the American landscape for generations to come.

At the heart of Cross Timbers Bison is a simple idea:

Take care of the bison. Take care of the land. Share the story. Leave something better for the next generation.
